As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowModusLink Global Solutions Inc. plans to shut down its distribution facility in Indianapolis, eliminating 110 jobs by the end of October, the company said late last week.
In a letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development posted over the weekend, ModusLink said the closure is being prompted by the “elimination of our major business for that facility and its transfer to a competitor.”
ModusLink did not name the competitor but said it was working with that company to hire as many of its employees as possible.
A message left with a ModusLink official Monday morning did not receive an immediate response.
The company said job cuts include seven salaried workers, 10 hourly employees and about 90 contracted or temporary workers.
ModusLink’s 96,000-square-foot facility at 7955 Zionsville Road handles warehousing, distribution, material planning, and returns management. It is adjacent to FedEx and United Postal Service hubs, and about 20 minutes from Indianapolis International Airport.
Waltham, Mass.-based ModusLink has operations in more than 20 locations in the United States and overseas. It will retain a presence in Indiana with a distribution hub in Bloomington.
