Fishers council candidate fills open seat ahead of schedule

Unopposed in the upcoming general election, Eric Moeller has been preparing to join Fishers City Council since winning the GOP primary for its north-central district seat in May.

But Moeller was sworn as a council member on Tuesday—about four months ahead of schedule—following the July resignation of incumbent Renee Cox.

The first-term councilor, who lost to Town Manager Scott Fadness in Fishers’ first mayoral primary, cited work conflicts when giving up her seat. Cox told IBJ she has been working on a consulting project in California since May.

Fishers is in the process of transitioning from town to second-class city. The mayor and nine-member City Council take office in January.

Moeller, 34, is finance manager at Forum Credit Union in Fishers. A seven-year resident of the growing community, he is a former member of the Fishers Redevelopment Commission and serves on the Fishers Chamber of Commerce’s Advocacy Council.

When he announced his council candidacy in January, Moeller said he would advocate for fiscal responsibility, public safety and quality infrastructure.

He was appointed to fill the open seat following a Republican caucus late last week.

Moeller and his wife, Beth, also own photography business SoNoMo Studios. They have a toddler daughter, Sophie, and are expecting a son this fall.   

Moeller graduated from Indiana University and holds an MBA from Anderson University.

In an email to IBJ, Cox said she intends to stay involved with the community, remaining a Kiwanis Club of Geist board member.
