A new two-story office building is in the works for the Nickel Plate District in Fishers.
The Fishers Redevelopment Commission recently approved the sale of a quarter-acre property at 11634 Maple St. for $25,000 to Re/Max Ability Plus.
The real estate agency plans to spend $1.8 million to construct a 7,200-square-foot building that will also include an atrium and cafe open to the public on the property directly behind Greek’s Pizzeria at 8800 E. 116th St. Construction is expected to begin by June.
The RDC purchased the property in late 2013 for $175,000 and started accepting proposals for the site in late 2014. It rejected the two it received initially, assistant director of redevelopment Shelby Bowen said, but continued to work with Re/Max on the proposal.
There is no tax abatement or tax increment financing dollars involved in the project, but the Fishers City Council approved a fee waiver in February.
Re/Max, which has an office at 8935 Technology Drive in Fishers, is planning to expand its business by about 30 percent, adding 12 to 15 agents at the new location, Bowen said. There are 47 agents currently.
In other Fishers news, the city council faces a full plate when it meets at 7 p.m. Monday.
Council members could vote on a resolution to purchase property at 12175 Visionary Way for a new Launch Fishers location for $3.1 million, and the proposed $76.4 million indoor sports complex in the Saxony development will get its first public discussion.
The council isn’t expected to vote on the sports facility, which would include a 4,200-square-foot arena, 245,000-square-foot fieldhouse and 600-space parking garage until next month.
