Dancing Donut, Flying Cupcake merging in new Fishers bakery

Donut and cupcakes are coming together under one new bakery in Fishers.

Kate Bova Drury, owner of The Flying Cupcake and The Dancing Donut, is combining the two businesses at a new store–possibly to be called The Flying Cupcake & Donut–in the Fishers Marketplace at 13180 Market Square Drive.

The cupcakes will be the same as what’s offered at The Flying Cupcake's five Indianapolis-area locations with a variety of flavors of regular, filled and jumbo cupcakes, but the donut offerings will be different, Drury said.

Instead of a pre-made donut selection, customers will create made-to-order donuts by individually selecting glazes, icings and toppings.

The toppings bar will offer sprinkles, brown sugar cinnamon crumble, graham cracker crumble, peanuts, gummy worms, chocolate chips and crisp bacon, to name a few items. The available glazes and icings will include cookie butter cream, caramel, milk chocolate ganache, strawberry glaze and maple glaze.

Drury described it as similar to a Chipotle for donuts.

“Customers can get it any way they want and kids will love the options and watching staff prepare their donuts.,” Drury said in an email.

A coffee and espresso bar will also serve drinks from Indianapolis-based Bee Coffee Roasters, and handmade fritters and other specialty craft donuts will be sold.

The cupcakes and donuts will both be made from scratch every morning.

Cupcake prices will be the same as Flying Cupcake stores ranging from $3-$3.75, and donut prices will range from $1-$2.50 with discounted prices for a dozen.

Drury said she plans to open by early February.

The Flying Cupcake has three Indianapolis bakeries, one in Carmel and one in Greenwood. The Dancing Donut has one location in Indianapolis.
