A groundbreaking ceremony for the 300,000-square-foot facility was set to take place Wednesday at 5117 W. Old 106th St., two miles north of Interstate 465.
IBJ reported on FedEx's discussions about the project with Zionsville officials in August 2012.
The company plans to open the center in August 2014 with about 200 workers, although most will be transferring from an existing Indianapolis FedEx facility. FedEx said the Indianapolis center will remain open and both sites are expected to add employees over time.
FedEx Ground said the facility is part of a nationwide network expansion plan in which 11 major hubs have been added and 500 other facilities have been expanded or relocated around the country since 2005.
