It’s the only high school vocal competition dedicated to music from Broadway, Hollywood musicals and the Tin Pan Alley era of the early to mid-20th century. The grand prize is $3,000 and a chance to perform with Feinstein in New York.
The competition is in its third year, but already seeing “overwhelming success,” said Doris Anne Sadler, executive director of the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative, which is part of the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel.
Sadler is accepting applications for the academy and competition, which will be June 12-16 at the Palladium. Regional finalists will be chosen from Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, New York, Wisconsin and Iowa.
