The closure of RFC Kitchens Indiana LLC, better known as Really Cool Foods, affects 131 workers, the Cambridge City-based company said in notice provided Monday to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
“We would have liked to provide more notice of the closing,” the company said, “but negotiations to obtain an investment of new capital through a sale of the business were discontinued only in the last few days.”
Eighteen of the 131 employees could remain at the company through the end of the year to help finish the closing of the manufacturing and distribution center.
When it opened Indiana operations in 2008, Really Cool Foods planned to hire 1,000 workers and invest $100 million in operations in a five- to seven-year period. The company spent about $24 million to build its Wayne County plant.
The company received $3.5 million in incentives, plus a donation from Wayne County of 50 acres, after it moved its headquarters from New York to Indiana. The company was founded in 2005.
