Orestes-based Red Gold Inc., the country’s second-largest tomato canner, announced Thursday that it plans to create
42 jobs within the next two years by expanding its production operations in Madison County.
The company invested more than $5.1 million to build a 23,000-square-foot facility that includes a high-speed food-processing
line and automated food-technology and distribution equipment.
The investment is one of several Red Gold has made this year, which total more than $20 million.
The company will begin hiring additional processing and advanced manufacturing employees this summer. Overall, Red Gold has
more than 1,300 employees at its Elwood, Geneva and Orestes locations.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Red Gold up to $250,000 in performance-based tax credits related to the company’s
job-creation plans. Madison County will consider additional property-tax abatement.
In addition to canned tomatoes, Red Gold produces ketchup, tomato juice and pasta sauces for its consumer brands Red Gold,
Redpack, Tuttorosso and Sacramento.
