The NBC affiliate in Indianapolis said Monday it has hired Kathy Hostetter, currently news director at WAVE-TV Channel 3 in Louisville. She starts May 6.
Hostetter was executive producer at WTHR from 1998 to 2002.
“Kathy is a remarkable and highly regarded news leader with years of experience in major markets, “ said WTHR President and General Manager John Cardenas said in a written statement. “As a former executive news producer here at WTHR, her local experience is a tremendous asset. I am excited that she will be joining us.”
Hostetter succeeds former WTHR News Director Keith Connors. He’d cited personal and professional reasons for leaving WTHR.
Hostetter is a 1991 Ball State University graduate and had worked at stations in Fort Wayne, San Jose/San Francisco and Portsmouth, Va.
The arrival of Hostetter will help ease an unusual wave of local news director departures in this market.
In the last year, WTHR, WISH-TV Channel 8 and WRTV-TV Channel 6 all have been looking for new news directors after a series of firings or resignations.
WISH-TV filled its vacant news director spot last December, promoting weatherman Steve Bray.
