A veteran executive at the Indiana Chamber of Commerce is taking over as director of the Indiana University Public Policy Institute.
R. Mark Lawrance, a lifelong Hoosier and IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs graduate, is scheduled to take over the post in July. He replaces John Krauss, who is retiring.
At the chamber, Lawrance oversaw the Indiana Chamber Foundation, developed long-term economic development plans, and led numerous studies on issues from workforce development to government efficiency. Before joining the chamber in 2000, he was a vice president for the MCL restaurant chain.
“The Public Policy Institute is an Indiana asset, serving the people of Indiana by keeping policymakers informed without bias,” IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz said in a prepared statement. “Mark’s experience and commitment to Indiana make him the right person to lead the Public Policy Institute and put Indiana’s best interests first.”
