Subscribe NowNew York City and northern Virginia have been chosen as the sites for Amazon.com's second and third headquarters, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday night, confirming earlier media reports that said the e-commerce giant was in talks with officials from those two locations.
The decision could be announced as soon as Tuesday, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the matter.
The choices would leave out Indianapolis and 17 other locations that made the list of top 20 finalists, but the report said other cities might also receive major sites.
Amazon last year announced plans to invest $5 billion in a second HQ and hire as many as 50,000 people, setting off a frenzy of interest from cities in the United States and Canada. The company received proposals from 238 locations before narrowing the list to 20 finalists.
Earlier this month, multiple media outlets said the company would choose two locations instead of one.

The New York Times reported last week that those sites would be Long Island City, in the borough of Queens across the East River from Manhattan, and the Crystal City neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, which is across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.
The communities are both riverfront stretches of major metropolitan areas with ample transportation and space for workers, The Associated Press reported.
