The Stutz hosts 20 in their Twenties photo shoot
IBJ hosted this year's 20 in their Twenties photo and video shoot at The Stutz, which has been renovated into a cultural center. Located at 1060 N. Capitol Ave., the complex spans 3.8 acres between 10th and 11th streets and Senate and Capitol avenues. The building is home to makers, artists and small businesses, including Griffy's Art Supply, Grounded Plant and Floral Co., Pattern, Amelia's Bread, Turner's Bar and Café Patachou.
Opened in 1914 as the Stutz Motor Car Co., the factory built its last car in 1934. Eli Lilly and Co. used the building from 1940 to 1982, then it sat empty until it was redeveloped in the early 1990s into a haven for artists and businesses. It was renovated again in 2021-2022, and its latest owners have worked to keep it a home for creatives while adding modern features and amenities.
Pattern runs the S.P.A.C.E. program, public art commissioning, Maker's Alley, Stutz events and activation.
Though IBJ primarily used Maker's Alley for its photo shoot, the team used other areas of The Stutz, as well, incorporating murals and art installations as backdrops.
On the cover are Taylor Melangton, Devyn Mikell, Maria De Leon, Larissa Fox and Trevor Fox.
The photos for this publication were shot by Eric Learned, who worked alongside IBJ Designer Sarah Ellis and Special Publications Editor Samm Quinn.
IBJ thanks Pattern for hosting us.•
