History: Nestlé’s history dates back to 1867, when Henri Nestlé developed infant cereal in Switzerland. In 1905, his company merged with Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Co. to create the Nestlé Group, which became a global dairy company. Over the years, the company expanded its traditional business, entering areas like frozen foods and pharmaceuticals. In 1939, Nestle established offices in the United States. In 1961, the Carnation Co. introduced to the public a non-dairy coffee creamer called Coffee mate. Nestlé acquired the Carnation Co. for $3 million in 1984 and added the Carnation and Coffee mate brands to its portfolio.

Today: The Swiss-based company operates in 188 countries, including the United States. Its portfolio includes more than 100 brands, including Coffee mate, Stouffer’s, Nespresso, Nesquik, Nestle Pure Life, KitKat and more.

Where Coffee mate is made: Workers at Nestlé’s Anderson plant make and distribute Coffee mate’s traditional creamers, as well as the natural bliss line. The plant also makes ready-to-drink Nesquik flavored milk. The plant opened in 2009. Located just off Interstate 69, a giant statue of the Nesquik bunny, drinking a glass of Nesquik, greets passersby.

Flavors: Coffee mate comes in more than 50 flavors, including the Original, French Vanilla, Hazelnut and Italian Sweet Crème. Other flavors are Pumpkin Spice, Snickers, Frosted Gingerbread and Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie. Nestle also produces fat-free and zero-sugar options.

All-natural: In 2011, Nestlé launched the natural bliss line of Coffee mate. The line offers dairy creamers made with only four ingredients, plus plant-based creamers and zero-sugar, plant-based creamers.•
