Letters: Supermajorities don’t serve state well

This is in response to the line in a recent editorial that starts, “And in Indiana, a relatively conservative state where the Republican candidate starts with a big advantage …” [“Editorial: Gubernatorial debate comes late, but event still important,” July 26].

Yes, Republicans certainly do have a gerrymandered advantage. That is why we have had a “supermajority” in the state Legislature the last several election cycles. It doesn’t serve the state well when governance is so one-sided, whether that be Democrat or Republican.

I would love to see an investigation by the media on the harm to a state when consecutive supermajorities rule their governments. That would be a debate worth listening to.
