New president is a sign of hope

I just finished reading [Bruce Hetrick’s Nov. 10] article. I was impressed.

We are all on a road to learning new things here. The venture is going to be like a roller coaster ride with every type of
people’s views imaginable. I am of Native American descent and was not raised with prejudice on color. However, we all develop
some type of prejudice as we go through life.

The election for me was like looking up for a change instead of having a spiral-down feeling, which was good. Times are hard
and all people are going through a lot of disorder in their lives. I find it hard to be positive at times due to lack of trust.

I felt trust in Obama. We all need something different and he seems to want it without color. I am sick of color being the
top of the conversations. I went to Manual High School in the late ’60s, early ’70s and the battles with the races were very
ugly. I like to think that Americans are growing past that finally. No one has had it harder than this country’s Native Indians.
Life goes on, nothing stays the same. At this point all we can do is hope and pray for the best and that the change is good.
