For More Information
When it comes to the efficiencies of modern-day government, it’s about more than connecting residents and businesses to state and local services. It’s also about forging connections across agencies and departments so that everyone, government personnel included, has a more seamless, positive government experience.
Yet when there are hundreds of government departments and agencies, it can be difficult to streamline resources and service delivery in a way that serves everyone. (Indiana alone has 6.9 million residents and more than 32,000 state employees).
So, in a quickly evolving, technology-dependent world, how can state and local governments continue to foster resident engagement and interagency collaboration without sacrificing efficiency or affordability?
It helps to collaborate with the right partner.
Choosing the right partner
Indiana has long strived to build a stronger and more connected digital government ecosystem to better serve its residents. Since 1995, Tyler Technologies has been a strategic partner in helping Indiana achieve this goal.
As the largest software company solely focused on the public sector, Tyler is on a mission to equip communities with technology that connects data, people, and processes across departments and geographic boundaries. From payment processing and disbursements to agency portals and mobile apps, Tyler’s extensive suite of products are custom-made for the public sector and are configurable to meet each government’s unique needs.
For state government, this means digital systems that work together instead of in silos; increased collaboration among government agencies; more frequent engagement between residents and the state; and a significant boost in cost savings.
Connecting Indiana
In 2023 alone, Tyler’s Indianapolis-based team partnered with more than 100 government partners across each of Indiana’s 92 counties to drive efficiency and boost resident engagement through connected technology. Here are two examples:
Launching Access Indiana. Access Indiana is a portal that allows citizens to use one login and one password (single sign-on) to access multiple services from the state instead of keeping track of multiple logins for multiple agency websites. Integrating with more than 100 systems and with more than 2.7 million registered users, it is becoming Tyler Indiana’s most visible product, enabling agencies across the state to meet residents where they are.
Leveraging Tyler’s Engagement Builder. With Engagement Builder, government agencies can develop new online forms using drag-and-drop modules to collect and manage essential data. Indiana leveraged the Engagement Builder to launch an online portal that allows residents to file a public records request with the state. Now, state government employees can manage those requests through a standardized process that has been customized to match their specific business process.
Connected government means connected communities
Indiana isn’t the only state seeing this success through strategic partnership with Tyler Technologies.
Success has also been seen in Ohio, where Lorain County 911 faced challenges dispatching for multiple agencies with disparate solutions. To overcome this, Lorain County implemented Tyler’s Enterprise Fire & EMS solution, which offers fast, easy access to critical information, helping public safety agencies work more efficiently. Since implementation, the agency has streamlined its operations, enhanced overall service delivery and replaced costly mobile data terminals with iPads, resulting in a cost savings of up to $6,000 per unit.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) upgraded their old case management system with Tyler’s Enterprise Justice platform, which connects with justice partners in law enforcement, corrections, and supervision. As a result, the AOC surpassed 94% in electronic citation filings across the state within the first year, conserving an approximate 4.37 million pages of paper.
Alaska’s Matanuska-Susitna Borough provides another example: struggling to manage payroll, timekeeping, and scheduling processes through four separate systems, the borough implemented Tyler’s New World ERP solution. As a result, the borough has reduced monthly utility billing time from several days to less than half a day. They also now provide a mobile-friendly experience, offering ACH payment and recurring payment options via an online portal.
More can be done – together
Government can be more efficient – and residents are equipped to have a more positive government experience – when digital government systems are built to talk to each other.
In 2023 alone, Tyler Indiana securely processed more than $1 billion in digital transactions and launched 44 online services, enhancements and products – all with $121.6 million in cost savings. And Indiana isn’t the only state seeing these results.
Empowering states across the country to meet the needs of their communities requires a combination of deep expertise, a proven track record of improving the resident experience, and a broad portfolio of efficient and intuitive solutions. When it comes to connected states for connected communities, Tyler is the one partner who can do it all.
