The court announced Tuesday that the 71-year-old Boehm would retire Sept. 30. He was appointed to the court in 1996 by then-Gov.
Evan Bayh.
During his tenure, Boehm wrote 466 majority opinions and 77 dissenting opinions.
A graduate of Brown University and Harvard Law School, he was a law clerk to U.S. Chief Justice Earl Warren and is a former
managing partner of the Indianapolis law firm Baker & Daniels.
Boehm helped lead the drive to post video of the Supreme Court's oral arguments online.
A nominating commission led by Indiana Chief Justice Randall Shepard will give the names of three finalists to Gov. Mitch
Daniels, who will make the final selection.
