Those were among the stunned reactions of Colts fans and others as they learned Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will retire from the NFL.
“It’s the hardest decision of my life,” Luck said during a news conference after the Colts lost a preseason game Saturday night to the Chicago Bears. “It’s the right decision for me.”
He called the decision sad, but he said, “I have a lot of clarity in this.”
“For the last four years or so, I’ve been in this cycle: injury, pain, rehab,” he said. “The only way I see out is to no longer play football.”
Here’s how people are responding to the announcement that Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will retire.
I’m literally shook right now https://t.co/NwxoKQJp0v

As shocked, frustrated, sad, or angry @colts fans are tonight, the guy that we feel for the most is GM Chris Ballard. Ballard and his scouts have done an excellent job rebuilding the roster around Andrew Luck and tonight’s news is a major setback.

The #Colts have known that QB Andrew Luck was seriously mulling retiring for at least two weeks. He’s married, he plans to travel the world, and once the love for the game waned, it sounds like he wanted to step away. So, he did.

“Final” has many meanings tonight apparently https://t.co/p0CWrxUiQv

More yards than Roger Staubach. More TDs than Troy Aikman. As many game-winning drives as Aikman or Aaron Rodgers. 15th-highest passer rating. #AndrewLuck https://t.co/rkO3sNxQMw

You won’t hear these kids @RileyChildrens Hospital booing #AndrewLuck. The important victories happen here, not on the football field. Thank you Andrew for being a great human being. @NFL @Colts #ColtsNation pic.twitter.com/TO3yoYLKlk

Tired of being injured, getting only somewhat better, back to playing hurt, then too hurt to play. Rinse and repeat. Didn’t want to spend his life limping
My take on Andrew Luck pulling the plug…
Dearest Mother. After being captured by the Rebs, I haven’t been able to get squirrel oil to apply to my wounds. Fortunately they are releasing me tomorrow and I shall make my way home to sit by the hearth and read tomes on architectural philosophy. I have shed my last tear. Your faithful son. Captain Andrew luck
Grigson and Irsay did not protect Andrew Luck and destroyed his body mind and soul.
You can ad Pagano to that that.
Good for Andrew Luck realizing there’s more to life than just football!
There are no kind words for selfish people who disrespect Andrew Luck’s decision. For Pete’s sake, it’s his life. Have you thoughtless critics ever done something because you liked it, only to lose your enthusiasm?
What Katie F. said above. All the best, Andrew.
Andrew Luck made a very sane decision. I have to wonder about how dark things got for him. May he do well, enjoy life, love his family, and find happiness.
Glass is half full report for the team: The Colts now have the cloud of uncertainty lifted about their starting quarterback and no longer have to answer the questions about him every moment of every day. The Colts have Luck’s salary back I would assume (no small item). Each and every member of the team became more important after last night, not just Brissett. What they do with that will be the story for the rest of the season. The defense and O-line should have felt the weight slide off Andrew’s shoulders right onto theirs. Mr. Brissett has just been handed an opportunity that few in the NFL get. In many ways this season just got more interesting than worrying/waiting for a hurt player to heal. I’m sure coach has a headache, but he will be judged on a different scale now that Andrew is gone. Big opportunities all around. Go Colts!
Ugh. Note to editors: copying and pasting tweets isn’t writing a story, nor is it new and original content. It is actually offensive to this reader, since I can get this free on Yahoo…or Twitter…or Facebook.
