“We are going to make this the No. 1 communications firm in Indiana,” said Murphy, an Indianapolis Republican who is wrapping up his 16th and final year in the General Assembly.
Murphy, 53, will lead the Indianapolis office of Peritus, which opened last year and already has four employees. He’ll hold the title senior vice president.

Established rivals in central Indiana include Hetrick Communications, Borshoff, Sease Gerig & Associates, and Hirons & Co. and Bose Public Affairs Group.
Since its founding in the 1990s, Peritus has grown from a political consulting firm into one of the nation’s fastest-growing full-service communications firms. In addition to Louisville and Indianapolis, the firm has offices in Lexington, Ky.; Nashville, Tenn.; Columbus, Ohio; and Birmingham, Ala.
Murphy is former TV journalist who later helped lead communications efforts for the forerunners of Simon Property Group Inc. and WellPoint Inc. He formed Murphy Partners three years ago.
Murphy this spring was one of six Republicans who challenged longtime U.S. Rep. Dan Burton for the Republican nomination in Indiana’s Fifth Congressional District. He came in fourth.
