[In response to the Oct. 18 viewpoint] Critics of the parking meter deal do not necessarily have access to all the information needed to make a detailed alternative suggestion to Mayor [Greg] Ballard’s lease deal. But it’s easy to see that a deal that gives away billions of dollars over 50 years to a private company might not be the best deal for the citizens of our city.

We know the city has a clear need for maximum income, i.e., public transportation, libraries, Herb [Simon] and Jimmy [Irsay]. The current plan doesn’t appear to be the best deal for the city. It is unfortunate that we can no longer trust our elected officials to always do what is best for us. We need to keep a sharp eye on every move they make in our interest.
