Burton handily won Tuesday's election in the 5th Congressional District after getting just 30 percent of the vote in a crowded May Republican primary in which several rivals argued it was time for him to go.
Burton defeated Democrat Tim Crawford of Noblesville, who ran without any support from the state Democratic Party after defeating a party-backed candidate in the primary.
The 5th District seat has long been considered one of the nation's safest for the GOP.
