Subscribe Now[Columnist Bill Benner has] been a big defender of Bill Lynch as Indiana University’s football coach the past couple of years and I have applauded your efforts. He is a good man and we’ve all wished for his success, but the Wisconsin game has pretty much put an end to his tenure.
As the game unfolded, I was absolutely dumbfounded at the complete collapse of the team. At its completion, my buddies and I had no words for what had just taken place. The radio announcers were also struck dumb, basically mumbling their way through the post game analysis and getting off the air as quickly as possible.
It’s over. It has to be over, and the sooner the better. I’m sure he is going to finish the season as head coach, but players will get hurt if they finish the season at half speed. How their hearts could be in these two last games is beyond my comprehension.
I want to make a statement about Indiana football going forward. They can win, and one need only look at Northwestern to know that it is possible. If you don’t have a winning tradition that basically recruits itself, it truly is all about coaching to get it going and keep it going.
