Cummins to build $70 million plant in Turkey

Cummins Inc., the Columbus-based maker of engines and power generation systems, plans to invest $70 million to set up a plant in western Turkey to produce filters and generators for motor vehicles, starting in early 2012.

The company expects to employ more than 800 workers at the site within five years and export more than 85 percent of its output at the plant, according to an e-mailed statement Wednesday that followed a joint press conference by Cummins and Turkey’s investment promotion agency in Istanbul.

Cummins has about 40,000 employees around the world.
