Connors spent the last five years as executive news director at CBS affiliate KHOU-TV in Houston. He replaces Carolyn Williams, who stepped down to return to the assistant new director position at the NBC station.
WTHR was the most-watched local station for news during the November sweeps period. It's a familiar position for Connors, who led KHOU to its highest-ever ratings and national journalism awards.
Houston is the 10th-largest television market in the United States, according to Nielsen Media Research data. Indianapolis ranks 25th.
Before moving to Texas, Connors led newsrooms in Rochester, N.Y.; Norfolk, Va.; and Charlotte, N.C. His experience rebuilding the NBC affiliate in Charlotte was the subject of “Local News,” a five-part PBS documentary that aired in 2001.
