For example, at our latest regular meeting, an avowed socialist, specially invited to the meeting, gave a presentation which was a misleading, slanted, left-wing/socialist history of the labor movement. To me, this felt like straight-up indoctrination. As part of this presentation, he even strongly implied that all supporters of Right-to-Work laws are actually racists.
Beyond the political radicalism, some members have a cult-like attitude. One union leader actually said that planning union activities was more important to her than planning her own child’s birthday party. At a previous meeting she told everyone that she would die for this union.
My “reward” for speaking out against all this was an abusive email, sent to me in the middle of the night, from an elected union officer.
My main reason for joining is that I did not want to be a freeloader: getting union benefits without paying my fair share. But I hate the cult-like aspects—and the radicalization.

Mary Henry is a radical liberal with close ties to the AFL-CIO and Richard Trumka. Trumka’s alliance with Marxist radical movements is well documented. Not surprised it is working it self down to the local level.
