Republican Susie Cordi, who was elected to the council in 2015 and is not seeking re-election this year, is featured in a radio advertisement released by the Hogsett campaign Monday morning.
In the 60-second ad, Cordi, who previously worked in city government under former Republican mayors Bill Hudnut and Steve Goldsmith, talks about her current job as a school bus driver and working with Hogsett during her time on the council.
She describes Hogsett, who also won election in 2015, as a fiscal conservative and mentions that the city has had a balanced budget for three years.
“I love Joe Hogsett,” Cordi says in the radio ad. “We’re lucky to have him.”
Republican state Sen. Jim Merritt, who is running against Hogsett, also is trying to show voters he can be bipartisan. On Thursday, Merritt announced that he would hire Democrat Bill Benjamin as chief of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, if elected.
Early voting started last week. Election Day is Nov. 5.

I loved Councilor Cordi’s ad. So refreshing for someone to be honest and fearless despite being of the opposite political party. That is what it should be like. Bravo to you Susie Cordi!! I also believe that Joe Hogsett is the right Mayor for Indianapolis!
