In a video posted to Facebook on Monday night, Bub’s Cafe owner Matt Frey said the restaurant will close Wednesday. He and his wife, Rachel, own the restaurant and the building that houses it.
Bub’s Cafe is a sister restaurant to the popular Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream, which has locations in Carmel, Zionsville and Westfield.
The cafe, which opened in a former cottage home at 220 2nd St. SW in May 2007, serves breakfast favorites including omelets, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and Bub Holes (doughnut holes).
Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream will remain open, Frey said, and should introduce a breakfast concept sometime in the spring.
“Rachel and I want to say thank you very much for all of your business,” he said on the video. “It’s been a wild ride.”
Frey did not say why the restaurant is closing and could not immediately be reached for comment.
“We survived 12 years, so that’s pretty rare in the restaurant business,” he said.

Interesting, since part of the family has climbed all aboard the TIF-train, I wouldn’t be surprised if this spot is the next station on Brainard’s Monon Flyer to Higher Debt.
This is a bad take
Ed H., I’m all ears. Has part of the family not done TIF deals with the city? Does TIF not increase debt? Doesn’t Brainard love TIF? Isn’t this spot surrounded by TIF projects? Sure, maybe the Freys have no TIF plans, but if they are no longer owning maybe the follow up owners do have those plans. Sure, it’s a guess, but I can’t say it’s not based on lack of information.
