Indianapolis-based mechanical contractor R.T. Moore Co. Inc. plans to spend $6.5 million to build a new 45,000-square-foot headquarters on the northwest side of the city.

The company expects to create 40 jobs as part of the project, with average wages of about $32 per hour.

R.T. Moore, which works on commercial and residential HVAC, plumbing, engineering and design projects in Indiana and Florida, is seeking an eight-year property-tax abatement for the project at 6645 Intech Boulevard, according to city documents. The property is south of West 71st Street and west of Interstate 465.

The company plans to retain its existing facility at 6340 La Pas Trail for production operations, but would move its offices and prefabrication operations to the new facility.

The new site would include 25,000 square feet of office space and a 20,000-square-foot pre-fabrication area.

R.T. Moore, through its property subsidiary DM Properties LLC, on Wednesday will ask the city’s Metropolitan Development Commission to consider its request, allowing the company to save about 56 percent on its property taxes, or $398,700, over the eight-year abatement period.

During the tax break period, R.T. Moore would pay about $284,131 in new property taxes, plus $96,974 on the unimproved land.

Following the abatement, the company would pay about $114,569 annually in real property taxes.

R.T. Moore currently has 272 employees making an average wage of $23.40 per hour.
