Indianapolis-based Apex Benefits Group, an employee-benefits consulting and brokerage firm, announced a $6.7 million expansion Monday that it says will create up to 55 jobs by the end of 2023.

The money will go toward purchasing and renovating a 30,000-square-foot office building at 9400 Priority Way West Drive on the north side of Indianapolis. Renovations are under way and are expected to wrap up by April 2020.

Apex bills itself as the state’s largest health benefits consulting firm. It was founded 16 years ago and has 65 employees. It’s currently located at 3755 E. 82nd St.

In a statement, CEO John Gause said the new headquarters will position Apex “to continue to grow and innovate, and retain and attract great talent to serve our clients better every day.”

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Apex up to $1.1 million in tax credits based on its job-creation plans. The credits are performance-based, meaning the company can’t claim them until workers are hired.
