Johnson & Johnson, the mammoth maker of health care and consumer products, plans to add another building to its massive distribution center in Hendricks County, adding 300 jobs.

The distribution arm of the New Jersey-based company plans to spend $110 million on the project, which will include specialized handling and storage technologies for medical devices.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. did not have a contract posted on its website, but a brief description said the project would get $2.25 million in Economic Development for a Growing Economy, or EDGE, tax credits.

Johnson & Johnson said the building will go up on an existing J&J site at the 70 West Commerce Park at Interstate 70 and State Road 39, where it already has a 1.05 million-square-foot facility, which it built 10 years ago at a cost of $82 million. It was the first building in the 1,000-acre industrial park west of Plainfield.

J&J did not provide a size of the new building, but said it plans to relocate a number of its distribution activities to the site. The project could take up to two years to complete.

“These actions are intended to enable the Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Supply Chain to enhance simplicity, agility and drive growth,” company spokeswoman Nicole Araujo said in an email to IBJ.
