I am disappointed and outraged by [Bill Benner’s Feb. 9] hat-in-hand open letter to Jim Irsay. Just in the last couple of weeks the Colts announced the elimination of 25 jobs. What more do you want from him?

You’re barking up the wrong tree targeting the good Mr. Irsay. The Colts are our heroes, the bedrock of our community (at least for the few months per year that most of them spend here). Irsay has never wanted more than for the people to have access to a comfortable and safe venue.

No, sir, your attention should be focused on "We the people." It is "we the people"—through our duly elected public officials—who directed that our first-class sports venues be constructed. And the responsibility for the CIB operating revenue shortfalls that prompted your column falls squarely on "We the people."

These are tough times and it is highly inappropriate for greedy taxpayers to turn to Irsay and the Colts to fix that which is not their problem. Advocate raising taxes or cutting back on those air-conditioned palaces we pass off as public schools. Just don’t mess with the Colts.
