Representatives from the U.S. Treasury Department and a presidential advisory commission on encouraging fiscal prudence visited Indianapolis May 4 for a “listening tour.” Leaders of Indianapolis’ financial literacy programs briefed them on their strategies.
Those include Campaign for Financial Fitness, a group of public and private organizations that helps Indianapolis residents and their families better manage their finances, and Bank On Indy, a program to sign up lower-income residents for low-cost checking and savings accounts.
First Lady Winnie Ballard, who has been a key figure in the city’s efforts, hosted the event.
