IPL parent company AES Corp. said Wednesday that Zagzenski will replace Ann Murtlow, who left the utility April 1. Murtlow was the first chief executive at IPL following its acquisition by Virginia-based AES.
In his new role, Zagzenski will be responsible for overall operations of IPL, which employs about 1,400 and operates three generating stations serving nearly 470,000 customers in central Indiana.
Among his challenges: addressing the electric utility's aging infrastructure.
Zagzebski has been senior vice president of customer operations since 2007. He has nearly 30 years of industry experience, including a stint as vice president and chief operating officer for field operations at Xcel Energy.
He also is on the board of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and has been active in youth development serving on boards including the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. In addition, he has coached high school and youth football for more than 20 years.
“Ken is the guy who has the will to win,” Ned Hall, chairman of IPL’s board and a regional president for AES’ North American operations, told IBJ when Zagzebski got the interim job.
