Butler provost named university’s interim president

The Butler University Board of Trustees announced Tuesday that Provost Jamie Comstock will serve as interim president of the university from June 1 to Aug. 1—the period between outgoing President Bobby Fong’s departure and President-elect James Danko’s arrival.

Comstock, who joined Butler in 2008, has been involved in drafting the university's “Dare to Make a Difference” strategic plan, creating the new College of Communication, expanding international education and supporting its Early College Program.

She earned her doctorate from the University of Arizona and has held positions at eight universities, including three as chief academic officer. She regularly makes presentations on comprehensive program review, strategic planning and issues confronting higher education leadership.

Fong, who led Butler for 10 years, will leave the university on May 31 to become president of Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. Danko, currently dean of Villanova University’s School of Business, will become Butler's 21st president.
