“Making music with our musicians and for our audiences over the preceding 10 years has certainly been an ongoing pleasure for me,” Everly said. “Here’s to a wonderful future!”
Everly, a native of Richmond, has been principal pops conductor since 2002, but his work with the ISO began much earlier. He has been in charge of the “Yuletide Celebration” show, the one with the beloved dancing Santas, since 1994. He launched the symphonic pops consortium in 1999 and has created 11 original productions that have been taken up by orchestras in 40 cities.
Everly is also principal pops conductor with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and pops conductor of the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra.
Terms of Everly’s contract were not disclosed. In the year ended Aug. 31, 2010, he earned base pay of $242,200 and total compensation of $258,769. That put him behind former Music Director Mario Venzago but ahead of CEO Simon Crookall in pay.
