The Republic of Columbus reports that the Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence will open Friday in a 43,000-square-foot facility on Columbus Municipal Airport property.
The center is built around a curriculum of science, technology, engineering and math and programs offered within the building include two- and four-year degrees. In addition, local manufacturers will be able to send employees to the center for degrees or specific training in everything from human resources to quality improvement initiatives.
Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus will use the facility for its new Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree program. Purdue's College of Technology and Ivy Tech Community College will also offer a number of engineering, technology, and related courses in the facility.
Columbus-based engine manufacturer Cummins Inc. donated $300,000 in equipment for a metrology lab to teach skills in precision measurement. Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment also offered financial support for the project.
