Aria Diagnostics LLC said it is offering the blood tests at its West 96th Street lab or at Northview Church on Hazel Dell drive in Carmel, although patients must first register and pay for the test thorugh the Aria Diagnostics website.
The test platform was developed by Abbott Laboratories and was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The test helps to detect the IgG antibody to SARS-Co-2 virus. An antibody is a protein that the body produces in the late stages of infection and can remain for months and even years after a person has recovered. Detecting these antibodies could be a key next step towards winning the battle against COVID-19, although scientists say it’s not clear whether the COVID-19 antibody protects people long term.
The tests work by using a blood sample and loading it into a special instrument that detects whether igG antibodies are present. Aria said patients can expect their results within 48 hours via email.
In recent months, Aria has pushed hard to offer testing services for the virus. It has provided thousands of COVID-19 test kits to Indiana municipalities and New York City, as well as numerous companies and first responders.
The company also offers testing for substance use disorder and pain management providers as well as many other specialties to detect patients’ recent use of prescription medications and illicit drugs, and to help monitor the effectiveness of treatment plans.
