On Twitter, the mayor said, “Thank you to the record-breaking number of individuals who lifted their voices in peaceful advocacy this weekend and to the law enforcement who helped to keep large crowds safe on busy streets.”

Hogsett had imposed curfews on Friday and Saturday nights that restricted residents’ movements from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day.
The curfews—which were also in effect last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday—were a reaction to violence, looting and vandalism that occurred downtown the previous weekend, following peaceful protests about racial inequality and police actions against African Americans.
Since Tuesday, the protests have been largely peaceful, with only minor outbreaks of vandalism and standoffs with police.
On Friday, Hogsett announced changes to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s use-of-force policy. And on Saturday, the largest crowd yet gathered downtown, where Hogsett addressed the protesters from the steps of the Statehouse.
