The defense contractor notified the Indiana Department of Workforce Development on Monday that the loss of 47 jobs will result from Lockheed Martin’s decision to relocate the HR Access and Transportation Worker Identification Credentials programs.
The last day of operations in Indianapolis is expected to be Oct. 16.
“We are currently working to evaluate the full impact of the relocation, but it is clear that significant layoffs will result,” the company said in a letter to the state.
Lockheed Martin developed HR Access to manage the Transportation Security Administration’s human resources services. Its TWIC program enrolls and credentials maritime workers at the nation’s ports.
Lockheed Martin’s Indianapolis call center is located on Decatur Boulevard south of Interstate 70 near Indianapolis International Airport.
The location has been affected by previous company downsizings. In December 2009, Lockheed Martin eliminated 25 positions there as a result of declining call volumes and “funding issues” that cut short a five-year federal contract worth a total of $80 million.
