We’re rebalancing, not losing our way

In response to “Congress let us down across the board” [Doran Moreland column in the Aug. 22 Forefront], has the author considered that the sharp divide in Congress might have something to do with the trillions of dollars at stake? With the dawn of gargantuan deficit spending, the political class has been given control of a vast quantity of the largest economy in the history of the world. Why would human beings want to give that up without a severe fight?

What we are seeing in Congress is the attempt of elected officials who listened to their constituents trying to rebalance Washington while those who like controlling trillions of dollars are resisting.

The author states that the tussles in Washington are showing “our supporters that the U.S. is losing its way” and that somehow we are a “hobbled leader.”

My opinion is that our system is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing, which is trying to stop historically irresponsible spending, bloated government and a regulatory environment that gained incredible momentum and rubber-stamp approval when one party was in power.

The stakes for the country are high and the majority of Americans know it. That was reflected in our last congressional election and it will be reflected in our next congressional/presidential election.

The pendulum is swinging the other way. The system works; the U.S. is not hobbled. Its citizens are leading it and attempting to take it back from people whose power has reached levels our founding fathers would have never imagined and would not have desired.
