Anderson tries for new image
Anderson wants to change the way people think about the Madison County city.
So it’s changing its motto from “The Right Place” to two tag lines that will be used in city communications and by its economic development department.
The city will use “Performance. Talent. Inspiration.” in its communications to organizations and entities outside the Anderson borders. Economic development officials
will use “Energy. Innovation. Experience.” in its communications and efforts to solicit business interest within the community.
The city’s new mayor, Kevin Ockomon, also has changed former mayor Kevin Smith’s weekly “Meat and Potatoes” newsletter to a bimonthly one titled, “The Spotlight.”
The city’s Web site also will get a new face in May, although the look has not been determined. It likely will include podcasts and other interactive features in an attempt to show that Anderson is innovative.
Anderson was long known as a city of automakers and blue-collar workers. Three years ago, economic development officials identified alternative industries the area should focus on for jobs. The targeted sectors-entertainment, gambling, food processing and aerospace/information technology-have all experienced job growth since.
