Call center to employ 400
Startup Agape Communications LLC plans to open a call center in Anderson, hiring 75 workers immediately and bringing a total of 400 jobs to downtown within a year.
The influx of jobs will make Agape the 12th-largest employer in Madison County. The jobs will pay about $10 an hour.
Company officials said they chose Anderson for its high unemployment and low cost to rent space.
Unemployment in Madison County increased to 7.3 percent in March, from 6.9 percent a year ago. Statewide, unemployment rose to 5.6 percent from 5 percent over the same period.
Agape is a telecommunications subcontracting company. It is the fourth company to open a call center in east central Indiana since February 2006 when student loan giant Sallie Mae opened a call center and hired 700 workers in Delaware County.
