For the most part, Republicans are fighting to keep America, America. Democrats, meanwhile, are fighting to ever so gradually turn America into a Socialist Country in which Godless Secular-Humanism must not only be the default religion, it must be the ONLY religion…or ELSE!
The Republican Party of today is totally unrecognizable to the party that existed 20 years ago and exists for the primary purpose of making sure their wealthy donors keep their money. Christians are convinced to vote on basis of abortion and same sex marriage even though other portions of the Republican platform are … let’s just say not supported by the Scriptures or the teachings of Jesus. Without this alliance, the Republican Party would be sunk.
If you’ve spent any time doing mission work in third world “democracies”, that’s the Republican vision for America – no middle class, and you’re on your own unless you’re in the super-small wealthy class. Car crash that wasn’t your fault? Thoughts and prayers. Get cancer or born with a pre-existing condition like a type 1 diabetes? Sorry about your luck, the insurance companies will drop you in a heartbeat. Education? Only if you can afford it.
If the last 4 years are what you consider to be America, then I must have a fake US birth certificate and actually grew up elsewhere. Nothing about the current GOP seems American to me.
And, Joe, in turn, today’s Democrat Party would be sunk without the support of domestic anarchists seeking to overthrow the United States Constitution any way they can…preferably through the courts, since their ideas won’t wash with a majority of Americans who understand our inalienable rights don’t come from government, but from our Creator. Your opinion of which party cares about people has been obsolete for decades; the Democrat’s resistance to all forms of integration from Reconstruction forward is easily documented. As for abortion on demand (with taxpayers paying for it, of course)…without the Right to Live, all other rights are moot points, aren’t they?
Republican party is complacent with Trumps dismantling of Democracy in this country and throw out the lifeline that Democrats’ are all socialist. Meanwhile they embrace racism and conspiracy groups with open arms.
What Tom said. The Republican Party is intellectually bankrupt. The Democrats implemented the bones of one of their health care plans, and STILL they don’t have any better alternative. It broke them, perhaps for good.
And spare me the anti-abortion nonsense. If you were really anti-abortion, you’d ALSO be pushing for actual sex education, increased availability of birth control, better prenatal care for moms-to-be, and better childcare for children in their early years. You’d cut down on the number of unplanned pregnancies that people can’t financially handle, which would reduce the number of abortions. (And, yes, there should be strings like IUD’s as part of this support. Go look at the study funded by Warren Buffett-related money in Colorado.)
Abortion won’t go away if you get rid of Roe v. Wade. It will just move to the back alleys again where women get maimed or killed… which is the original reason it was legalized. And guess what, there still will be broad support for abortion in cases of rape/incest/life of the mother… carve-outs which anti-abortion extremists have stopped supporting. (Ask Richard Mourdock how well that plays.) It’s downright criminal to think the government should force a woman to carry a pregnancy to term when doctors tell her it has a significant chance of KILLING her. How’s that’s pro-life?
Bob P., I am a lifelong Republican and what you’re saying is just nonsense. Tom W. is 100% correct. Under Trump, my Republican Party has stood by while President Trump has attacked and undermined our institutions, mocked democratic values, embraced conspiracy theories, and flirted with racism, sexism and openly embraced xenophobia. The notion that Trump is stopping us from socialism is nonsense. Trump is the one who is making socialism much more popular. Trump is the greatest gift to the Democratic Party ever. Because of Trump, Democrats will have made enormous gains by the time he leaves office on January 20th. It’s going to take us real conservatives at least a generation to rebuild the movement after what Trump has done to it.
I strongly agree with Paul O. I’m a fiscal and social conservative with no place to go. As a new small business owner, I purchased health insurance on the Marketplace (Obamacare) for my family of four because it was the best product on the market that I could afford. I watch in dismay as Republicans try to tear it down in a pandemic WITHOUT proposing something better. (Thank God for John McCain). And now, everyone on both sides says they support coverage for ‘pre-existing’ conditions all of a sudden.
Obamacare has become something like Social Security: at first, the Republican True Believers fought tooth and nail against it, called it socialism (which it is), and then 50 years later promised never to touch it.
.
“Guaranteed issue” (i.e. protection against denial for pre-existing conditions) doesn’t mean anything without “universal coverage”, which the Republicans still haven’t figured out 10 years into it.
Re Social Security: remember, St. Ronnie cut a deal with Tip O’Neill to save it early in my working life, about 40 years ago. Today’s R’s would call him a RINO for doing that.
Bob P. Is the only common sense narrative here. I come from a Democrat area (NW Indiana), from Democratic parents who have both passed. They would NEVER support this Democratic Party as it stands today. Indiana maybe a ‘nice’, safe place to express your ‘Rino’ views, but, AOC and the squad will add another hater to their group in 2 weeks. The heavily favored democrat from the St. Louis area has tweeted her support to dismantle the military. So, keep your eye on the defund movement as it destroys our cities. I will not be visiting a major city anytime soon. My children deserve better than this Democratic Party.
