Center offers accommodations for air travelers facing layovers
Eventually, additional rail transit corridors would be built, radiating in other directions from downtown.
One concept, by Jessica Coleman, plays off the idea that a transit line might someday run between downtown and Indianapolis International Airport. She proposes a transit stop community northeast
of the old airport terminal, just east of Interstate 465 at Sam Jones Expressway, where a handful of hotels are already located.
The pedestrian-friendly community would be a place where passengers whose flights are canceled could come via a monorail connection to the new airport terminal. The concept
ranges from small sleeping cells for individuals-a la Tokyo’s Tube Hotel-to larger hotel rooms for stranded families. This village could house flight crews for the night and serve as a meeting space for businesspeople who fly in for meetings but don’t want to travel all the way downtown.
