Top officials from Indiana University and its Kelley School of Business are set to make a “major” announcement Wednesday afternoon likely involving a gift from the Lilly Endowment.

A new conference is set for 1:30 p.m. in Bloomington to discuss “undergraduate business education … and the role the school plays in developing Indiana’s economy.” University President Michael McRobbie and Kelley Dean Dan Smith are among the executives expected to participate.

The event also includes representatives of the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment, the preeminent grant-making institution in Indiana and one of the country’s largest private foundations.

In 2010, Lilly Endowment paid out $206.4 million in grants, including $95.6 million to support education causes.

More than 3,200 students from Indiana are majoring or minoring in business at the Kelley School, IU said, and more than 25,000 Kelley graduates live in the state.
