Former Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith has been cleared of wrongdoing in the case involving his arrest following a call to Washington, D.C., police last summer over an alleged domestic dispute incident with his wife, Margaret.

The lawyer for Goldsmith’s wife told WIBC-AM 1070 this week that while a 911 call was made, there was no incidence of domestic abuse or violence.

Goldsmith was arrested July 30, after his wife called police to their home. The initial police report said the incident involved serious threats and shoving. The former mayor spent two nights in jail.

Several days after the incident, Goldsmith abruptly resigned as New York’s deputy mayor under Michael Bloomberg.

At the time, Bloomberg’s office said Goldsmith was pursuing a job in the private sector and did not mention his arrest.

Margaret Goldsmith’s attorney, Alan Dale, told WIBC that the ruling clearing Goldsmith came down Jan. 4, with a Superior Court judge saying there was no assault during the couple’s argument.

Goldsmith served as Indianapolis mayor from 1992 until 2000.
