of State Business Services Division are now accessible instantly for free. They can be accessed at www.sos.in.gov/business.
The business filings online date back to the
1800s. They are commonly accessed to research the names and addresses of principal officers of a business;
to verify ownership in mergers and acquisitions; or as documentation in the pursuit of business loans
and investments.
To access
these records, attorneys, financial professionals and managers previously had to visit the Business Services Division
of the Secretary of State’s Office in Indianapolis in person, or request copies through the mail. The state charged $1 a page
for paper copies and an additional $15 for certified copies. There is no charge for the online service.
