The British engine maker received a $151 million contract to continue making engines for the V-22 Osprey, an aircraft that can take off and land at short distances. The Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md., contracted for 265 of Rolls-Royce’s AE1107C engines to be built by October 2017.
Rolls-Royce has delivered about 550 of the engines, and this contract will launch the next five years of production, Rolls-Royce defense spokesman George McLaren said.
Engines for the V-22 come off the same production line as the AE2100, which goes in the C-130J transport plane. Both engines are primary defense programs for the company.
