On June 29, Carson filed a bill called "the Jeremy Warriner Consumer Protection Act." Warriner lost both his legs and suffered severe burns in an accident involving a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. Warriner had sued Chrysler, alleging a faulty brake fluid container caused the vehicle fire. But the company’s bankruptcy led to the cancellation of Warriner’s mediation. Carson is concerned the "New Chrysler" will avoid liability for similar claims.
"I want to see a stronger GM and Chrysler arise from bankruptcy, and I believe in the quality American vehicles being built by the thousands of union workers across our country," Carson said in a press release. "But I also believe strongly in consumer protection and preserving the right of an injured crash victim to have his or her day in court."
Carson’s bill would require the restructured General Motors and Chrysler to carry liability insurance and cover claims related to defective products produced by their predecessors.
