The operator of Indianapolis International Airport and several reliever fields in the metro area is accepting proposals until May 10 at 2 p.m.
You’ll need liability insurance of not less than $2 million, as this auction is like Ebay on methamphetamines. The initial inventory includes everything from pallets of natural gas cylinders to bucket trucks to X-ray machines to "1 orange windsock pole."
The authority is looking at staging the auction sometime in June or July, per the winning auctioneer’s availability.
In past years, the auctions have yielded about $1 million for the authority, which puts the money into its general fund.
Among the bizarre assortment of stuff the airport wants to unload is a charcoal grill, several pallets of suitcases, 26 pallets of IT equipment, 52 pallets of office cubicle parts, a walk-through metal detector, and signs from a defunct Border’s bookstore.
Add to that a fleet of airport shuttle buses and one could start one’s own airport.
The auctioneer can make a commission between 6 percent and 10 percent, depending on what fee structure one proposes.
